Paolo Carafa

Full Professor of Classical Archaeology and Pro-Rector for Archaeological Heritage at Sapienza University of Rome, Paolo Carafa is a leading expert in urban archaeology and ancient topography, with decades of activity in complex contexts such as Rome and Pompeii. He has directed major international research projects, including the University's excavations in Pompeii (Regiones VII and VIII), currently directs the Sapienza archaeological mission on the Palatine, and has coordinated numerous PRIN programs and activities resulting from cooperation agreements with Italian and foreign institutions. A member of the Scientific Council of the National Roman Museum and of the Board of Directors of the Villa Adriana Villa d'Este Institute, he is the author of more than 160 scientific publications and responsible for publishing series and journals. His activities combine field research, methodological and technological innovation, and archaeological heritage enhancement.

Paola Palazzo

Archaeologist is qualified as a university lecturer in the concurring sector 10/A1 - Archaeology. She has gained extensive experience in the field of urban archaeology of Rome, with particular specialization in studies on the Caelian, conducting research and excavations at sites of considerable historical importance such as the Basilica Hilariana, the domus dei Simmaci and the domus of Gaudentius, the so-called “Library of Agapitus” and the complex of the Roman Houses under the church of Saints John and Paul. She has directed archaeological investigations on the Caelian as part of the work for the Metro Line C and participated in national and international research projects, including the European program “Above and Below the European City.” She is the author of numerous scientific publications and monographs in the field.
